Finger Henna Designs, Letters and Final Project (Lesson 14)
Free Yemeni Henna Course · Lesson 14 of 14
This is the final lesson of the course. Fingers are where a henna design is completed, and a well-chosen finger style can make a simple design look finished and elegant. You will also learn how to decorate letters, so you can add a name or an initial, and then bring everything together in a final project.
Duration: 60 minutes · Level: Intermediate
By the end of this lesson you will be able to:
- Choose the finger style that suits a hand design.
- Decorate letters in henna.
- Complete a full design using every skill from the course.
Finger designs
Designs on the fingers are small enough to fit one finger. These are the most common styles:
- The same pattern on all fingers.
- A different pattern on each finger.
- Only some fingers: the index finger alone, or the little or ring finger, depending on how the hand design extends.
- One design split across two or three fingers, which is completed when the fingers are held together.
- A design on two fingers only, where each finger completes the other.
- Fingertips only, middle segments only, or the lower part only.
Decorating letters
A popular personal touch is to draw the letters of your own name, or the name of someone you love, in Arabic or English.
- Write the letter with long, flared ends.
- Add a heart or a small rose at one end.
- Decorate it with dots, tiny leaves or a small crown.
Common mistakes
- A finger design that is too busy: fingers are small. Choose one or two elements per finger.
- Fingers that don't match the hand: continue the same leaves or shading used on the back of the hand.
- A letter lost in decoration: keep the letter itself bold and clear, and decorate around it.
Exercise
Draw two different finger styles on your hands. Then write the first letter of your name, decorated with a heart and dots.
Final project: put it all together
It is time to combine everything you have learned in one complete design on the back of the hand. Plan it on paper first, then practice it with eyeliner. Use khidab on your skin only after a successful patch test (see Lesson 1):
- Draw a large natural rose in the center of the back of the hand (Lesson 10).
- Surround it with leaves shaded in at least two different patterns (Lesson 9).
- Add a small cup rosebud on one side (Lesson 11).
- Fill the space around the rose with nuffasha (Lesson 13).
- Extend a vine chain from the rose to the wrist, ending in graded dots (Lesson 13).
- Decorate the fingers in one of the styles from this lesson, and add a crosshatch net on one finger.
Photograph your design before and after sealing and compare them. Then share your photo with us on our Telegram channel.
